How to Make Beef Jerky Australian Style
Beef jerky can be your go-to snack for a movie night, hike, or post-workout cravings. It is rich in protein and is completely natural to prevent any preservatives to enter your system. You can choose one of the available popular brands that offer a low calorie, low sodium, and high protein jerky products, or make your own at home. Here is a quick Australian style beef jerky recipe that you can try out to make your own go-to snack.
- Broil or Roasted Beef
- Gluten-free soy sauce
- Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & black pepper
- Garlic powder
- Liquid smoke
- Oregano for taste
While the traditional jerky only constitutes of meat and sprinkled salt, these extra ingredients will add the right flavors to hit each of your tastebuds to provide complete satisfaction.
Take the meat’s slab and cut off any excess fat from the surface that is not required for the recipe. Carefully slice the meat to 1/8th of an inch. The thinner slices you make, the better your jerky will be. Once you have all the slices ready, place them in a gallon zip bag.
Now create a balance of all the spices and powders that you want to use and apply the paste of powder over the slices. Massage the slices with the mixture to let it settle properly. Keep it in the freezer to chill for a minimum of 45 to up to 24 hours. The longer you give the meat to marinate, the better it will soak all the spices.
Once you are satisfied with the marination process, take the zip bag out. Preheat oven to 175F. Take large baking sheets and cover them with foil. Place a metal rack over the foil and lay a single layer beef on the racks in a row. Once the arrangement is ready, bake the meat for 3-4 hours. Stop after 3 hours can check for the texture. It should get dry and crumbly on the outside, but it should not burn itself. Take a piece out for taste if you cannot make out the cooked level just by taking a look.
When you feel it is time, take out the beef jerky from the oven and place it in an airtight container. Keep it sealed at normal room temperature for two weeks. You can enjoy your homemade beef jerky anything you want without having to worry about your diet plan. Beef jerky can be a really healthy snack to prevent fat and oil consumption.
Other things to keep in mind
- Make sure that the beef is rightly sliced. You can get readymade jerky slices or try doing it on your own to save money. Avoid taking fatty parts.
- If you are having trouble in slicing the meat, try keeping it in the freezer for an hour. It will make the meat more firm and easy to slice through.
- Do not worry is the slices are not equal. With time, you can learn to slice the meat into grain width slices, but you can now focus on learning the recipes.
- Make sure that you keep a balance for all the ingredients that you use and avoid adding more salt than needed in your food as it can be harmful to your health.
